hi! I’m Maja

I share my thoughts on stuff, things that inspire me and some of my memories that might as well inspire you. Hope you have a great stay!

Cadaqués revisited

Cadaqués revisited

Right after our wedding we headed to the beautiful Cadaques for some quality family time. There’s no better place to do that – the weather is always nice, the surroundings are just breath taking, sangria poured everywhere and tapas as good as they should be. What else do you need, really?

You can see the pictures from our last year’s visits to Cadaques here (until now, this is definitely one of my favourite posts here!) and below some of the tips since after 3 years of visiting the place year after year, we know THE spots.

STAY

Whatever option you choose for your accommodation, it’s most important to decide on it well in advance. Both hotels and private rentals get booked for 100% of their capacity, especially during summer time with both Spanish and French spending their holidays here (Cadaques is only an hour away from the French border).

Airbnb has a very nice selection of apartments around the city in very affordable prices, and might be the best deal to find in the city. There are several hotels from the basic ones like Tramuntana to the more luxury ones as Hotel Rec de Palau.

This year, we got a chance to spend one night in Playa Sol to celebrate our freshly cooked marriage – the hotel is beautiful, it has a private swimming pool and the view from the private balconies is everything you are looking for in Cadaques.

EAT & DRINK

El Barroco
Might be one of the most beautiful restaurants you’ll ever see, covered in lush ivy and blooming garlands of flowers. A favourite place of Salvador Dali himself (who in 1979 even designed the logo of the restaurant!) serving typical Lebanese fare.

Blau Bar
One of the most centrally located bars with decent tapas and nice views on the seaside.

Brown Sugar
Small but extremely vibrant place with a completely laid-back atmosphere during the day and live music at night. Cocktails based on fresh fruit smoothies with infusion of your choice.

Xiringuito S’Olivera
Good tapas and cold beers with the best view at sunset!

El Padri
Very charming patio hidden behind the building and a very yummy menu of tapas.

SEE & DO

Cala Nans
Cadaqués, apart from its countless charming narrow streets lined with whitewashed houses covered in flowers, has a lot to offer in terms of the natural surroundings. Numerous coves and bays are heaven for snorkeling lovers and the village’s location in between the mountains makes the area the perfect place for hiking. One of the closest and easiest hiking trails is the one leading to the lighthouse of Cala Nans – it’s an easy, pleasant 40-minute walk from Cadaqués.

Dali’s House in Portlligat
The house in Portlligat was Salvador Dalí's only fixed place of residence from 1930, where he lived and worked until the death of his wife, Gala, in 1982. Drawn to Cadaqués area by the landscape, the light and the isolation of the village, Dali set up his home for years in a small fisherman's hut in Portlligat (1,5 km from Cadaqués).

Sa Conca
Since most of the beaches in Cadaqués are located right next to the busy center or just off the street, it seems like a nice idea to take a short walk and settle a bit outside of the village for a slightly calmer atmosphere. Sa Conca is one of the alternatives – located just 10 minutes from the busy old town

Cap de Creus
The Natural Park of Cap de Creus is located on the peninsula north from Cadaqués and with its extraordinary landscapes is a perfect day trip. Plan a hiking excursion there or rent a canoe in Portlligat to explore it from the seaside!

+ SHOP

(extra cause that’s just what you have to do in Cadaques)

Sa Riera
Because you can’t stroll through Cadaqués without a wicker basket.

S’Espardenya de Cadaques
Because if there are no espadrilles on your feet you shouldn’t be in Cadaqués.

Can Salo
Because I’m a sucker for beautiful ceramics and you should be too.
