finally in Tbilisi!
Next in the series of our memories from Georgia, a short guide to all the pretty corner of Tbilisi. All of the other posts from Georgia, including the beautiful photo album from the Caucasus Mountains, a guide to Georgian cuisine and a full road trip itinerary (coming soon!).
Liberty Square
The starting point of our Tbilisi tour, Liberty Square is very centrally located and has a 24-hour luggage storage point if you arrive as early as we did (read: 4am). We left our backpacks there and headed for breakfast in one of the restaurants by the square, also open round the clock.
The Clock Tower & Tbilisi Old Town
Fact: Georgia is full of stray dogs. I know it’s the case for all countries in this region but it was the first time we experienced it in this amount. Especially walking around Tbilisi, we were followed by numerous furry friends and if you know what crazy-dog people we are, we definitely enjoyed it. They are very friendly and well-behaved too.
Cute dogs aside, the Old Town of Tbilisi is beautiful. Lined with traditional wooden balconies and cute little cafés, it’s a real time-travel experience. The Clock Tower is one of the most iconic buildings in the area and a very Pinterest-friendly one too!
The Bridge Of Peace
The locals say it looks like a sanitary pad, oh well. This modern bridge is easily spotted when walking along the river. 5am is also a good time to visit - it’ll be empty for sure and the light is just beautiful. Bonus: spot another furry friend!
Mtkvari Riverside & Narikala Fortress
If you’re a sunrise light sucker like I am, a walk along the river is a must. On the top of the hill on the right you can see the Narikala Fortress overlooking the city. It’s a bit of a walk and a very mild climb but the view is definitely worth it.
Orbeliani Baths
I kid you not, I’ve had the facade of this building pinned in my Pinterest mood board for years! Just a place I want to see one day… and here I am. Finally! We didn't have a chance t visit the actual baths and see the interior of the building but a major check on my bucket list done anyway.
Tbilisi St.Trinity Cathedral
Another view point of the city, on the opposite site of the river. Funny thing, with its majestic placement on top of the dramatic staircase, it reminded me of the temples we got to see in Japan… A must on the map of Tbilisi.
Fabrika Tbilisi
A very cool place to hangout in the evening! Fabrika is a cultural space located in an old fabric factory and has plenty of trendy shops, bars and an international hostel on-site. We spent one of our evenings there sipping on Georgian wine and would highly recommend it.
