culinary paradise: Florence
There are so many reasons to fall in love with Italy: wonderful weather, gorgous landscapes, ancient monuments... but whatever you say, I say food should always be on the top of the list. Florence gave us more than many opportunities to dig into the best of Italian cuisine: pizza, pasta, the tastiest meat and seafood... We did it all. And you should too.
Here you can find the map of all the best places.
For breakfast
Pasticceria Buonamici
To start your day with a delicious piece of pastry and a simple cup of coffee, this tiny patisserie has it all - what is more, don't expect to pay more than 4€ for two!
La Boite
For the seat by the open window perfectly covered in sunshine for your morning coffee.
For lunch
BiancaZeroZero
A great alternative to the traditional pizza but as good (if not more!). This dough of their pinsa is made of mix of wheat, soybeans and rice flours and left to rise for at least 48 hours resulting in perfectly light, tasty and more healthy meal! We tried their Fiori di Zucca served with zucchini flowers and anchovies and Diavola with spicy salami. Both recommended!
Mercato Centrale
Mercato Centrale in Firenze is not only the place to visit if you're on a shopping haul, but also (or most of all) if you're in search for a great treat. The second floor of the market has been turned into a culinary paradise: it is filled with stands serving the freshest and the tastiest Italian specialties. You will find there anything: freshly baked pizza, variety of pasta, cheese and ham of the best quality... We decided to go for the seafood plates cause they just irresistible: seafood stew in tomato sauce, shrimp and octopus skewers and a set of anchovies in olive oil. Not to miss!
For dessert
Gelateria Santa Trinita
The truth is that you will find good gelato on every corner of Florence. What is special about this one? Leave the shop and have your ice cream with the view over the Ponte Vecchio.
For aperitivo
Piazza Santo Spirito
You can't not recognise this place as most probably it will be filled with young locals as you pass by. FInd a spot on a terrace of one of the bars (or order a glass and install yourself on the pavement) and go for a drink + aperitivo (charged 1€ per person, you will get a plastic plate you can fill yourself with whatever you want in the buffet inside).
La Menagere
For more hip atmosphere, head to beautiful la Menagere where the drinks are more creative (we had a chance to taste the Florence Cocktail Week specials) and the vibe cozy.
For dinner
Il Chicco di Caffe Della Lola
For a quiet evening and seasonal menu with a twist on the traditional Tuscan dishes.
Trattoria Za Za
Spending a day in Florence, you will surely hear of the famous bistecca alla fiorentina - a local variation of a coal-grilled beef steak traditionally served in a minimum of 1 kg (sic!). Trattoria Za Za is where you get to try this exquisite tradition. For a cheaper option (1 kg of meat has its price wherever...), their selection of pasta is also amazing (and truffle everything...)! Plus obligatory mascarpone cream for dessert.
At this point there's no way you're a) not drooling on your keyboard, b) not booking the next flight to Florence. And you're welcome for that.
